reread the Apple Tree and I'm having Jessica Lockwood thoughts. because.
She's what, 12? 13? And her parents are away again, and for some reason her little brother's inconsolable and keeps saying they're hiding. So she goes to look under the apple tree with him, but she can't see anything and she knows he's got an active imagination, she knows he's fired up about ghosts. It doesn't seem so strange that he's got this idea into head. Her parents always come back.
But then they don't. She's receiving this information completely on her own and she knows he was telling the truth. Is she jealous of her earlier unawareness? Does she feel guilty?
Then do you think she went back outside to look? Just to stare at the tree, trying to get her eyes to focus on anything but branches. But maybe her Talent's not as good, or maybe they really are gone. She can't tell- there's no way for her to truly know if they're still standing there.
So she never gets that last glimpse of her parents before she becomes essentially a full on carer herself. She doesn't ever get that last moment to be somebody's daughter- she doesn't get to look at her grief head on.
What I'm trying to say is that she probably spent a lot of time looking at that tree.
#trying to talk more on here is intimidating#this may be deleted in like five minutes#but. Having thoughts.#like ofc 'children forced to grow up too early' is one of the integral points of l&co#but seeing how much Jessica is already parentified even before her parents are dead#like that line in the apple tree when she says 'I can't see anything#sweetheart'#I know he's six years younger but- that feels like something a parent or someone much older would say and she's only About 12.#she's just got no space to grieve because she has this responsibility#or that line in the show that kipps says to Lockwood about 'being all alone in his big house' or whatever#that was Jessica except she had to step into a role she shouldn't have had to fill while grieving herself#no matter how much she loved her little brother#jessica lockwood#ohhhhh....

How tall is Flippy and Flaky in your AU? and how big is their height difference?
This is SUCH a good question, thanks for asking! I had it planned for a long time.
Flaky just may look big, if you do a quick glance at her without caring much you may think she's around 170cm but its a thing for some porcupines to use their quills to look like they are bigger than their pedrator, its all I big nature move, I drew her like that on purpose! If you erase her quills, you will see how smol she is kekekekekeke
also, she's very proud of that 1 milimeter in 151.1, It was her last hope of growing up a little more, you can bet Flippy teased her a LOT about her height and how she was being "left behind", he was ruthless about it
He did that in their childhood and still teases about it even after getting married
He approaches it in two ways
The "Ain't fooling me"
and The "Welcome to the Jungle"
If he stands behind her, her quills will cover his vision so he can get silly about it
He's evil.

(up to meeting blue and ink)#the villagers manipulating him and treating him well while bullying his brother......... sedating him with tea under false pretenses.......#nightmare eating the apples and destroying them all and the tree.....................#emerging from the statue dream was probably very confused and also very distrustful#wonder how much he'd actually tell blue and ink.... how honest he'd be with them about his feelings......#but also him feeling so different and detached from people because of his grand destiny and responsibility as a guardian. but also. because#of his lack of socialisation because he spent his formulative years as a rock. he didn't get so many milestones that other people got#hearing about blue's childhood and relationship with his brother and both of them slowly realising just how much Dream lost#first days of school or making friends or silly brother things#birthday parties and joining sports or band or something#things blue would think are just normal childhood things that he assumes everyone experienced but dream has absolutely no idea#very interesting..........#not that nightmare got those things either#even if he got to grow up outside a statue#he had it rough in a different way
